Baskin Robbins Loses a Little Bit of Sweetness
So Tom Cruise may be celebrating 25 years in showbiz, and knocked up tween queen Jamie Lynn Spears may have just had her baby shower, - but really does any of it matter when you put another recent event into perspective?
Call me crazy for being so down, since I’ve never been to Winnipeg and I didn’t even know the dude’s name until Tuesday, but nonetheless I am saddened by the passing of Irvine Robbins, co-founder of my ultimate comfort food.
A Winnipeg native who revolutionized the world of sweets with his innovative recipes and sugar-fueled imagination, he helped launch Baskin Robbins into the huge success it is today.
Who hasn’t been consoled by a scoop of Gold Medal Ribbon or Daiquiri Ice? My mom used to find every excuse in the book every Superbowl season to go down to our local Baskin Robbins and nab a scoop of Quarterback Crunch.
May you rest in peace, Mr. Ice Cream Genius. Thanks for changing our lives.
